Since asset managers like BlackRock bring tens of billions of dollars in liquidity to the cryptocurrency markets and upend the cyclical capital rotation that defines cryptocurrency investment, the Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are frequently referred to as the most successful ETF launch in history.

Crypto ETFs See Outflows For Four Weeks

Macroeconomic uncertainty and concerns about a protracted trade war caused cryptocurrency ETFs to see four weeks in a row of outflows in February 2025 and early March.

CoinShares reports that outflows from the recent market decline totaled $4.75 billion, with $876 million coming out of the market during the week of March 9.

The week of March 9 saw outflows of $193 million from BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin fund, while the month-to-date outflows for all BTC ETFs totaled $756 million.

In February 2025, BlackRock included IBIT into its model portfolio despite the increased volatility and macroeconomic uncertainty.

Model portfolios from BlackRock are pre-made investment plans with various risk profiles and diversified financial instruments. Asset managers receive the portfolios and use them to present the pre-made investment plans to potential investors.

By drawing in new capital, adding an ETF or asset to the model portfolio can significantly increase inflows into the asset.

With IBIT, investors who adopt a more passive strategy will be introduced to Bitcoin by including the ETF in a pre-made investment portfolio without requiring them to self-custody the digital asset or engage in any onchain transactions.
